MEET REMY BERNHARDT

Meet Remy Bernhardt, our dear friend, creative muse and woman of many talents. It was undeniable that from the moment we crossed paths with Remy, we had found a beautiful creative alignment. From her timeless approach to style and specialised focus on the female form, Remy was destined to become the perfect fit to help bring our vision to life for a number of our lifestyle campaigns.

Most recently, we were lucky enough to have Remy photograph our Classics Swimwear shoot, over in Lovett Bay, Sydney. A short and sharp trip that we managed to squeeze everything into, including a quick catch-up on Remy’s life behind the scenes.

Hi Rem! Tell us, when did you first discover your love for photography?

I would say that my love for photography was always there, as a kid I was always taking photos of my friends and dressing them up. Although I’ve always loved the art of photography, my end goal wasn’t necessarily to end up as a photographer, I actually started off my career as a fashion stylist. I still love styling shoots, however, being behind the lens and capturing those special moments is definitely something that fills my cup more.

I’ve always enjoyed your multi-disciplinary approach to creativity, do you find shifting between mediums allows everything to continue being fresh and exciting?

The short answer is yes. Practising in so many different mediums allows me to keep my creative momentum pretty stable, without dropping in and out of creative bursts too much. It’s nice to jump from the computer to more hands on practise, then out in the field too. Its nice that each medium has found ways to bounce off each other and usually as I bring new ideas into one medium it will bleed into some of other practises too. In saying that it, does keep me very busy and I continuously have to check myself to not burn out.

What does a typical day in the life of Remy look like?

Gosh, every day is different for me! My day-to-day changes so much depending if I’m on set, in the office editing or travelling for work. My ideal day at home in Byron would start with Pilates at Peaches, coffee (lots of it), a surf check/swim, then back to the office for a few hours to edit and answer emails and a beauttttt surf at golden hour.

As somebody who travels for work, where would one of your must-see destinations be and why?

I fall in love with every destination I go to, and I am so lucky that I can travel for work so much. Pretty much If you take me to an island with turquoise waters I am a happy girl. Probably one of my favourite places in the world would be the Seychelles, the beaches are so pristine and the waters are so clear that it looks like a movie set. I love how remote the Seychelles are, it truly is a hidden gem.

I also travelled to New Caledonia at the end of last year it was absolutely incredible, it is only a 90-minute flight from Brisbane and is absolutely beautiful.

What is your favourite look from the Classics Swim collection? To wear and to photograph?

All of the swim at soooo beautiful, I love the shapes of the togs and the timelessness of this collection. I would say my favourite set to photograph was the choccy triangle kini. I can see myself wearing this set time and time again.
